When Will Fuller went down many Texans fans assumes the team would stick the course, Brian Gaine felt different. The Texans elected to trade a 4th round pick (and swap 7th rounders) to the Denver Broncos to acquire veteran wideout Demaryius Thomas.
Thomas has multiple 1,000 yard season under his belt and should instantly contribute to the Texans considering they play his former team this weekend. The championship pedigree of Thomas should also contribute to this locker room. Understanding what it takes to get a team to the Superbowl is an undervalued quality. It’s one thing to hear it from a coach whose playing days are over, but its completely different when its a teammate in your locker room.
Thomas came in to the league with a speedy 4.38 40 time and a big frame receiver at 6’3″. Thomas was notorious for the game-winning overtime touchdown reception from Tebow in the 2011 AFC wildcard game. Many people felt as though Thomas has lost a step in recent years but I personally feel the quality of the QB play around him in Denver was the real decline.
Now Thomas has become more of a possession receiver and not the downfield threat that Fuller brought but no one is Houston is complaining. For the first time in Texans history they were active at the trade deadline and made a move for quality talent. This may the beginning of a change in Houston.
